Shoreline has rebuilt the jetties on the Namibian Penguin
Islands Mercury, Ichaboe and Possession (sometimes called
the Guano Islands), off the Namibian South West coast, in
conjunction with
Windhoek Consulting Engineers for the Ministry of Environment
and Marine Resources
Construction was completed with marine specification
Balau wood, and steel hot dip galvanised in Cape Town, and
rust primed and finished with international paintepoxy
on-site
Due to the complicated logistical environment
of construction, all steel structures were manufactured and
assembled in Cape Town before taken apart and transported
to Lüderitz. From here all materials were shipped to
the islands and assembled on site again using stainless steel
bolts and nuts
Concrete columns were cast with the use of divers,
steel moulds and tremie concrete as per marine specification
The Penguin Islands are rich in history and
protected bird sanctuaries today. Under official inspection,
Shoreline ensured minimal impact on the breeding penguin colony
